"If this band appeared inNew York City, they'd be a sensation!"  That was guitar great--andone-time Mel Brown bandmate--George Benson's reaction after hearing the MelBrown B-3 Organ Group.

In fact, this true all-star band(all four members are Oregon Music Hall Of Fame inductees) has been asensation going back to 1997, when they began a 20-year run on Thursdayevenings at Portland’s legendary “Jimmy Mak’s” (The Oregonian dubbedthem “Jimmy Mak’s signature group”).  They’ve continued their Thursdaynight tradition at the Jack London Revue for the past 6 years. With acollective resume that reads like a "Who's Who" of NW jazz, blues, and soul, this group has the talent and confidence to be completelyspontaneous--from their blistering solos to their improvised arrangements andsegues.  No wonder they've thrilled audiences wherever they've played.

Count among the band’s fans jazzgreat Christian McBride, host of National Public Radio’s “Jazz Night InAmerica.”  In an October 2021 broadcast, McBride interviewed Mel andplayed excerpts from a Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group festivalset.  At one point in the program, McBride exclaimed, “My mind isblown!”

  • Mississippi Studios Presents Night Heron / The Apricots

Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi Ave, Portland, OR 97227, USA

    Night Heron

Night Heron is the creation of Cameron Spies, former frontman for Radiation City. After Radiation City broke up Cameron enlisted some of his favorite musicians. The players on this record hail from other projects (currently or formerly) such as: Y La Bamba, Reptaliens, Nicole McCabe, and Aan

    The Apricots

The Apricots are an indie-folk-rock band from Portland, OR that thrives on vocal harmony. At their core, they're just a group of best friends that have found purpose in this band. Their songs will make you swoon one minute and groove the next.

    Shawna Pair

Shawna Pair’s music has been described as Depeche Mode meets Olivia Newton John. It’s urgent and primal in its groove. Her melodies soar and they balance anthemic tension and release.
Cameron Spies, from Radiation City and Night Heron, produced, engineered, and mixed Shawna’s debut album, ACTIVATOR.

From the start, Shawna and Cam got along famously. Something just felt special. Many studio sessions were filled with laughter as well as crying over the wounds life had inflicted.
